as part of 6th Summer University on Youth and Development

Background on the Workshop:

Youth Express Network is one of the partners of the Summer University on Youth and Development for the second year. This year, as in 2004, the theme of the university is decided to be the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and Youth Express Network will be contributing to the overall program by organizing a workshop on “Exclusion, anti-Semitism and Islam phobia in Europe”. The workshop will bring together 20 experienced youth workers, trainers and youth researchers that are linked to Youth Express Network and engage them in a overall discussion on the related issues under the light of their experiences in the field.

The workshop participants will also have the possibility to take part in the joint activities of the university which will be organized in cooperation with all partner institutions (see below).

Background on the University:

The Summer University on youth and development is being organized for the 6th time and is already one of the most prestigious and influential youth events in the field. Each year the summer university brings together prominent organizations working in the youth field together and provides the opportunity for around 250 young people from Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa to work together on issues that are of importance for all. On top of that it ensures the establishment and strengthening of partnership and cooperation among the youth organizations from Europe and other continents.

In 2005, the Summer university will be organized in partnership with European Youth Forum; Youth Express Network; Spanish Youth Council (CJE); European Educational Exchanges-Youth for Understanding (EEE-YFU); Latin American Youth Forum (FLAJ); Youth for Development and Cooperation (YDC); JECI-MIEC and North-South Centre of the Council of Europe (main initiator of the summer university).

Dates and the venue:

As in the previous years, the Summer University will take place in Molina- Spain, and will be hosted in CEULAJ (Europe-Latin American Youth Centre). The dates for Youth Express Network workshop is 12th of October (arrival) and 19th of October (departure).

Program of the Workshop:

The program of the workshop will consist mainly on round table discussions; experience sharing; self and group work on the related issues and presentations by partner organizations of the university. There will be also joint activities of the university which all participants of the university will be engaged in activities related to the Millennium Development Goals.

There will be also Cultural and Artistic activities in the evenings, parties, concerts and excursions during the university program

Important: the detailed program of both the workshop and the university will be available by the second half of September.

Applications:

The applicants for the workshop should meet the following criteria:

To be fluent in English,

To be between 20-30 years old,

To have experience at local, national and/or international level in youth work,

To be able to participate the whole activity.

Applications from Youth Express Network member organizations and individuals who have participated in any one of the Youth Express Network activities in the past will have priority.

The selection process will take place by the 1st week of September and the outcomes will be announced by 15th of September 2005.

Financial Conditions:

70 % of the travel expenses of the participants (maximum ticket 450€) from their home country to Molina will be covered by Youth Express Network.

Participations fees: 60€ for UE countries residents and EFTA countries, 40€ for New UE countries, 20€ for non UE countries

All accommodation and food expenses will be covered by the project.
