SEMINAR “Tolerance in society – reality or fantasy?”

Dear friends,

On behalf of European Youth Association (EYA) in Warsaw we are urgently looking for participants from LITHUANIA and BULGARIA for our seminar “Tolerance in society – reality or fantasy?”, which have been already accepted by Youth Program National Agency.

I have a pleasure to invite 4 persons from your country for this event.

Below you can find all necessary information about the seminar.

DATE: 5th – 9th of August 2005

VENUE: Kazimierz Dolny nad Wisłą (about 120 km from Warsaw to the south), more information about this beautiful town you can find at the web-site: www.

PARTICIPATING COUNTRIES:

Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Spain, Turkey.

PARTICIPANTS NUMBER: 28 (4 from each country).

You have to buy flight ticket to Warsaw airport and we will pick up you there and transfer to the place of seminar.

COSTS: We cover up to 70 % of travel costs (APEX ticket). Accommodation and food is provided. Participation fee: 30 €

SEMINAR’S DESCRIPTION:

The main idea of the project is to promote tolerance among the youth and develop civil society. Through the implementation of the seminar we are willing to put a pressure on the aspect of social attitude to the problem of reigning discrimination. The seminar activities will consist of workshops, discussions, ice-breaking games, and meetings with the representatives of unprivileged groups. Thus the project will enable participants to face the problem of intolerance in their local communities.

SEMINAR’S OBJECTIVES:

The project will realize the following objectives:

a.) to fight against intolerance and discrimination in local communities

b.) to encourage young people to participate actively in social and political life especially by building civil society in their own countries using methods and making the most of skills acquired during the project,

c.) to identify the structure and functioning of minority groups and to discuss the role of integration as a main factor against conflicts in ethnically diverse regions

d.) to indicate the importance of NGOs’ participation in developing civil society,

e.) to break stereotypes in the mentality of young people by confronting similarities and differences,

f.) to improve participants’ knowledge on the problems of minority groups ,

g.) to enable young people to present their cultures and traditions by promoting informal and intercultural education,

h.) to understand and to put into practice the most essential principals of tolerance and open society devoid of xenophobia,

i.) to create international partnership against, racism

j.) to start closer cooperation with organizations from other countries,

k.) by intercultural education.
