LOCAL SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT

IN SOUTHEAST EUROPE

-training for energy campaigners in environmental NGOs-

Environmental organizations Zelena akcija-Friends of the Earth Croatia (Zagreb, Croatia) and Proaktiva (Skopje, Makedonija), with Norwegian partner Friends of the Earth Norway, are organizing training for activists of environmental organizations in countries of Southeast Europe.

Energy sectors of Southeast Europe (SeE), although very different, share problems common in the whole region of Central and Eastern Europe countries: inefficiency, high levels of pollution, modest utilization of local renewable energy sources, and slow transition toward more decentralized and sustainable direction. Environmental NGOs can contribute to promotion of renewable energy use and energy efficiency significantly as a suitable organizations for a volunteer involvement of young people open to regional cooperation on the common problems.

First part of the training is one week practical seminar in "Solar academy" in Croatia which will provide the participants with basic information about energy sector and promoting renewables and energy efficiency on local level. Second part of the training will be participation in small campaign on local level in Macedonia, based on installation of simple solar system on one public building.

Funding for covering all the costs for up to two/three participants from each of the country in the region is provided. Seminar will be held in "Solar academy", educational center which Zelena akcija is developing in abandoned military barracks on island Šolta near Split.
