Training Course on COnflict ManagEment for CO-ordinators and Mentors in EVS projects, 7-11 October, Slovakia

The Slovakian National Agency for the YOUTH programme is hosting COME, a training course on conflict management in EVS, from 7 - 13 October 2005 in Bansko Stiavnica, Slovakia

The course aims to improve the quality of the EVS hosting projects by developing the competencies in analyzing and dealing with conflicts.

24 participants from YOUTH programme and South East Europe countries will be invited in TANDEM, meaning that a mentor (tutor) and co-ordinator (supervisor) from one EVS hosting project should apply together for the course. Under mentor (tutor) the organisers understand the person responsible for personal support of the volunteer and under co-ordinator (supervisor in some countries) the person in HO responsible for EVS project support (in day contact with volunteers, giving them tasks "at work"). Participants have to be from organizations involved in hosting EVS projects or at least being in the process of starting hosting EVS project.

Board and lodging will be provided and covered by the organizers; travel costs for participants from South East Europe will be reimbursed up to 100 EUR.

Long Walk for Peace and a one-day Conference on Balkan Peace Park, 1-12 August 2005, Kosovo, Montengro and Abania

The anticipated dates of the walk are August 1st to August 12th, and the trek will include the border regions of Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania. The trek will finish in Mitrovica (Kosovo) with a one-day conference on the Balkan Peace Park on August 12, 2005.
This event is organized by ERA (Environmentally Responsible Action Group) and BIRD (Balkan Institute for Research and Development), under the patronage of Mr. Astrit HARAQIJA, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (Kosovo) in cooperation with New Community Albania, PFGE (from Albania) and Alpet Shqipetare From Montenegro.

The Long Walk for Peace is a part of the Balkan Peace Park Project, which aims to create a trans-national, cross-border park which will be a symbol of peace and co-operation in the region, as well as a means of promoting environmental conservation and stimulating sustainable tourism and local employment.

There will be 40 participants that are going to take part in Long Walk for Peace 2005. Accommodation, food and transport during the BPP, according to participation, will be covered by organizers. Only travel expenses to Kosovo and back should be covered by participants.

The event will take place from August 1st until August 12th (arrival on July 31st and departure on August 13th) and it will take place in Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania.

It will be a four-day walk in Kosovo, four-day walk in Montenegro and four-day walk in Albania. The expedition will visit all frontiersman, cross-border inhabitants, local people, non government organizations, government organizations, institutions, local police, border police and common culture-historical heritage of three regions (Kosovo/a, Montenegro, Albania), culminating in a one-day conference on the Balkan Peace Park in Mitrovica (Kosovo) on August 12, 2005. The expedition will organize short workshops for participants of the expedition and local people. During the day there will be approximately 6-8 hours of walking.

Regional Forum "Juvenile Justice in East and South-East Europe", 14-16 September 2005, Moldova

Institute for Penal Reform and UNICEF-Moldova invite representatives of NGO's and state authorities acting in the field of Juvenile Justice to participate at the Regional Forum "Juvenile Justice in East and South-East Europe" organized with the financial support of ICCO, which will take place in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova in September 14-16, 2005.

The main objective of the Event is to contribute to the creation of a network in order to reform the juvenile justice system by exchange of experience within East and South-East European countries. Working languages will be English and Romanian.

The Program of the Forum will include 3 days and will be divided into two parts:

First part of the agenda (first and second days), will be dedicated to an outline of Country Reports.
The second part of the forum, UNICEF international experts will make presentations focussing on international standards in the field of juvenile justice. After the presentation a Workshop will be organised in order to determine the possibilities to amending the national legislation in the context with the international standards, as well as the drafting of an activity plan in this respect.
The participants will be invited to do a short presentation of National Juvenile System in their Country of origin.

Participants should be representatives of NGOs or state authorities acting in the field of Juvenile Justice System from the following target Countries: Republic of Moldova, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Byelorussia, Croatia, Slovenia, FRY Macedonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Yugoslavia.

Each applicant is invited to submit the application form (available here), a concept paper on the National Juvenile Justice System (700-1000 words), CV of the applicant, experience of the organisation (only representatives of NGOs). The applications should be submitted via email to juvjustice_moldova@yahoo.com.

A book will be published after the Event, which will comprise all collected information as well as an analysis of the National Juvenile Justice Systems in the East and South-East Europe with an introduction to the European System of Juvenile Justice.

International Conference "EuroIslam - Mixed or Separated?", 2-8 October 2005, Romania

AEGEE Bucuresti, European Students Forum announces that the application for the international conference Islam and Europe - Mixed or Separated? is now open. The event aims to promote values of mutual respect and understanding between different cultures and religions and to fight against intolerant and xenophobic attitudes.

Between 2nd and 8th October, 75 participants from over 30 countries, both European and Non-European will have the chance to ask questions and find answers about the Euroislam phenomenon, to discern between myth and reality.

30 out of the 75 participants can also take part in a 3 day pre-event on The Role of Women in the Islamic Society (September, 30th - October, 2nd). The pre-event is organised in collaboration with Women Development Foundation-WDF Romania.

The applicants must be between 18-30 years old and have good command of English. Application form is available here.

The participation fee is 50 EUR and will cover attendance to all lectures, workshop materials, accommodation and meals for the period. An additional fee of 10 EUR will be required for the pre-event.

This event is part of a broader AEGEE project on Euroislam. Its main partners are AEGEE Europe, AEGEE Ankara and the Romanian-Turkish Business Council.

Conference "The European Union: Past and Future Enlargements", 5-7 September 2005, Croatia

The deadline to register for this conference is 12 August 2005.

UACES, the University Association for Contemporary European Studies is holding a major conference in Zagreb this September. The conference will comprise a full programme of keynote and plenary sessions. There will be a session on the RAE, and also the first UACES "Lifetime Achievement Award" will be presented to Prof. John Pinder, Chair of the Federal Trust for Education and Research during the Conference Dinner. There are also over sixty research panel sessions, covering a very wide range of areas related to Europe. Details of the research panels are to be found on the UACES Website and plenary sessions are listed below.

The conference will look at past and future enlargements of the EU. The research and plenary sessions will focus on the key themes of: Identity and Diversity; Enlarging Europe; Croatia, South Eastern Europe and the EU.

There will also be a pre-conference coach trip on the Sunday, followed by a Welcome Reception hosted by the British Council and British Embassy.

Economic, social and cultural rights are on the political agenda. In recent years, they have been given increased attention, internationally, and domestically. This guide provides an overview of rights and mechanisms relevant to the participation of minorities in economic life in South-East Europe. It contains examples of best practice and lessons learned by people or organizations advocating for effective economic participation by, or on behalf of, minorities in the region.
